Reichman Presented Bebout Award at Somerset Hills KC Dog Show

2018-09-10 | , American Kennel Club

Barbara Reichman was presented with AKC’s Walter Bebout Memorial Award for Leadership in Canine Legislation on Saturday, September 8th, at the Somerset Hills Kennel Club dog show in Bridgewater, NJ. Mrs. Reichman, of the NAIA Trust of New Jersey, has become the first two-time winner of the award. Mrs. Reichman was first awarded a Bebout Award in 2014, in recognition of her work on behalf of the New Jersey Federation of Dog Clubs.

Since the 2014 award, she has continued to play an important role in fighting legislation that would harm New Jersey’s responsible dog owners and enthusiasts.

The 2017 Bebout award recognizes Barbara Reichman’s tremendous efforts in fighting legislation in New Jersey in 2016 - 2017 that would have restricted the sale of purpose-bred dogs in favor of pets from unregulated sources, repealed New Jersey's excellent consumer protections for the purchase of pets, and imposed severe restrictions of small hobby breeders and enthusiasts. Reichman’s dedication to the cause, attention to detail, in-depth policy knowledge, and advocacy efforts played an important role in securing favorable amendments and a conditional veto for the problematic measure.

In addition to her work for the NAIA Trust of New Jersey, she serves as the Shelter Project Director for the National Animal Interest Alliance; and as Legislative Liaison for the Golden Retriever Club of America, the Garden State Golden Retriever Club, and Schooley’s Mountain Kennel Club.
