AKC GR Advocates with a Focus on Safety at the 2020 ANC
“Show, Shop, and Leave” was the theme of the 2020 AKC National Championship Dog Show Presented by Royal Canin at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. AKC Government Relations (AKC GR) and the American Kennel Club PAC (AKC PAC) took part in this socially-distanced event held December 11-13 in conjunction with the AKC National Obedience Championship, AKC Rally National Championship, AKC Agility Invitational, AKC Fast CAT Invitational, and other competitions planned and presented with safety foremost in mind.
Sheila Goffe, Vice President, Government Relations; Patty Van Sicklen, Regional Manager; and the AKC PAC hosted an informational booth to update event participants on legislative and regulatory issues that affect dog owners, exhibitors, and breeders, and on new U.S. Department of Transportation rules for airline passengers who travel with assistance animals.
The AKC PAC provided masks to PAC contributors and to the occasional exhibitor or judge who needed a spare.
To reduce the exchange of paper materials, AKC GR displayed QR codes that could be scanned with a smart phone. The AKC PAC also contributed event signage that urged attendees to properly wear their masks at all times.
Visitors to the AKC GR booth were encouraged to limit their time on-site and to later visit www.akcgr.org and www.akc/goverment-relations for additional information, tools, and key issues data.
